Mechanical Engineering Internship | Summer 2025

Ommo is the pioneer of permanent magnet-based 3D tracking technology, providing ultra-precise 6DOF tracking for tiny sensors in real-time, at up to 1,000 times per second. We track the position and orientation with up to 0.1mm in precision of tiny sensors that are less than 1mm in size. Serving as a localized GPS for surgical navigation systems, our technology will eventually be used for a variety of digital transformation use cases, including virtual training, robotics, and human-machine interfaces.

Responsibilities

  • Hands-on fabrication & assembly of prototypes in the company R&D lab, using a variety of tools and processes (SLA & FDM 3D printers, CNC mill, laser cutter, band saw, etc.)

  • 3D CAD design for manufacturing, spanning a variety of processes, including milling, turning, and injection molding.

  • Perform product tests & compile reports for engineering verification purposes 

  • Design & prototype test fixtures and test equipment for R&D

  • Assist in quality assurance & manufacturing data analysis responsibilities

  • Manage BOMs for fixturing projects and pilot products

  • Create engineering drawings with GD&T best practices

  • Create and/or update documentation such as design inputs, design outputs, test plans, SOPs, etc.

  • Calculate (excel/ hand calcs) important design criteria, such as forces, stress, deflection, wear, etc and create FEA models/ simulations when necessary

Qualifications

  • Pursuing (or completed) a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or Product Design.

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD design, FEA, and 2D drafting/ drawings

  • Theoretical and practical comprehension of material science, mechanics of deformable bodies, statics, dynamics, and vibrations

  • Experience with rapid prototyping (3D printing, Laser Cutting, Foam Models, etc.)

  • Comfortable with and capable of solving very complex and ambiguous problems and managing multiple projects simultaneously

  • Good planning and time management skills
